Preamble
There is but one only living and true God, who is infinite in being and perfection, a most pure spirit, invisible, without body, parts, or passions, immutable, immense, eternal, incomprehensible, almighty, most wise, most holy, most free, most absolute, working all things according to the counsel of His own immutable and most righteous will, for His own glory. He is most loving, gracious, merciful, long-suffering, abundant in goodness and truth, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin; the rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. ~ Westminster Confession of Faith, Ch. 2.1
This site exists because of that God, and for His glory alone. It was built out of a sincere desire to help believers and seekers alike grow in their knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, deepen their love of the Almighty, and find encouragement for the journey of faith. Every tool on this site, from the Bible Reader to the reading plans, from the study notes to the shared resources, was made freely and prayerfully with one aim: that the God who is most wise, most holy, and most loving would be magnified, and that His people would be edified.
This is not a commercial venture. It is a labor of love offered to the Church. If it helps even one soul draw nearer to the Lord, it has served its purpose.
That said, what follows is a set of practical terms that govern the use of this site and its tools. Please read them carefully.
1. Scope and Agreement
This site (including rfrmd.com, gdswrd.com, and lvngwrd.com, collectively "the site") is a personal, non-commercial Christian resource built for personal devotion, family worship, Bible study, and gospel conversation. By accessing or using any part of the site, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, you should discontinue use of the site immediately.
2. Purpose and Intended Use
The site and all of its tools, including the Bible Reader, notes, sharing features, and reading plans, are provided free of charge for personal, educational, and devotional use. You may use the site for your own study, share it with others, and use notes features to support your time in Scripture. Commercial use, scraping, automated access, or any use that is inconsistent with the site's devotional purpose is not permitted.
3. Notes, Sync, and Sharing
Bible notes on this site are intended to be personal study tools. If you do not use sync or sharing features, your notes remain stored only on your device in your browser's local storage.
If you choose to use notes sync, your notes are transmitted to and stored on the site's server so they can be backed up and restored across devices. If you choose to use notes sharing, the notes you submit are stored on the server for the purpose of delivering them to others by code. If you choose to export your notes and transfer them yourself, export and import may be used as a non-server alternative for moving notes between devices.
Notes on this site are personal, but they are not promised to be private in the sense of end-to-end encrypted, confidential, or inaccessible to the site operator. Do not use the notes features to store passwords, financial information, legal records, medical information, or other sensitive confidential material.
Notes content may be reviewed only as reasonably needed to enforce these Terms, investigate abuse or security concerns, respond to support or troubleshooting requests you make, or administer sync, sharing, storage, and related site features.
The notes sharing feature allows you to share your personal Bible study notes with others using short word codes. By sharing notes through this feature, you affirm that the content you share is your own and that it is consistent with the purpose of this site: edification, encouragement, and Christ-centered study of Scripture.
All shared notes pass through a content moderation system. Notes that contain explicit language, hate speech, threats or violence, dangerous content, or content that exploits vulnerable persons will be rejected. Repeated violations result in escalating restrictions on your ability to share, ranging from brief timeouts to extended blocks.
Shared notes are stored temporarily by default (1 hour, 24 hours, or 7 days depending on your selection). Permanent share codes are available only to site administrators. All shared content may be removed at any time and without notice.
4. ESV and Reader Accounts
The ESV Bible text is provided through the ESV API, which is owned and operated by Crossway. ESV text and audio are requested through the app's server-side API so the Crossway key stays server-side. Reader accounts are separate from ESV reading itself: they are used for sync, shared-note access, and other account-linked features.
ESV text is displayed under the terms of the ESV API Terms of Service from Crossway. You may not copy, redistribute, or republish ESV text beyond what those terms allow.
5. Privacy
Your privacy is respected. The site uses GoatCounter for lightweight, cookieless analytics. No cookies are set. No fingerprinting is used. Analytics data is limited to aggregate usage information such as pages visited, approximate country, browser type, screen size, and referral source. For full details, see the Privacy section on the About page.
If you choose to use reader accounts, notes sync, notes sharing, moderation appeals, or support features, the site may process and store the limited information you submit in order to operate those features. Notes that remain only in local storage and are not synced or shared stay only on your device. The site does not sell your email address.
6. Local Data
The site stores your preferences, notes, and reading progress in your browser's local storage. If you do not use sync or sharing, that data remains only on your device. If you choose to sync notes, the synced copy is stored on the server. If you choose to share notes, the shared copy is stored on the server for the sharing feature. If you choose to export your notes, you are responsible for how that exported file is stored or transferred. Clearing your browser data will remove locally stored information from your device. You are responsible for maintaining any backups you wish to keep. The site operator is not responsible for any loss of locally stored data.
7. Scripture and Content
Unless otherwise noted, all Scripture quotations are from the ESV Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version), copyright 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved. ASV text is in the public domain.
The site's Cross References feature uses cross-reference data adapted from OpenBible.info and is provided in accordance with that project's CC-BY license. That data may be reformatted, shortened, or paired with local verse snippets for display inside the Reader, but the underlying cross-reference data remains attributed to its source.
The text of the King James Version (KJV) is in the public domain in the United States. In the United Kingdom, rights in the Authorized Version are vested in the Crown and administered by Cambridge University Press under royal letters patent.* This site reproduces KJV text on a non-commercial basis for personal devotion and Bible study. The site operator is actively researching the full scope of Crown Copyright as it applies to digital, non-commercial Bible tools, and will update these terms and the availability of the KJV accordingly as that understanding develops.
* For more information on KJV rights and permissions, see Cambridge University Press or the relevant guidance from the Crown.
Articles and written content on this site are authored for devotional and educational purposes. Nothing on this site constitutes professional theological counsel, legal advice, medical advice, or any form of licensed professional guidance. For details on how content is produced, see the Content Integrity Notice.
8. Conduct
By using this site's interactive features (notes sharing, registration), you agree not to submit content that is profane, hateful, threatening, exploitative, or otherwise contrary to the edifying purpose of this site. The site operator reserves the right to block access to sharing features, remove content, or restrict use for any user who violates these guidelines, at any time and without prior notice.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The site and all of its content, tools, features, and services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory. The site operator expressly disclaims all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy, reliability, and non-infringement. No warranty is made that the site will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that defects will be corrected, or that any data (including notes, reading progress, and preferences) will be preserved.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the site operator, including any contributors, volunteers, or affiliates, shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages of any kind, including but not limited to damages for loss of data, loss of profits, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your access to or use of (or inability to use) the site, its content, tools, or services, even if the site operator has been advised of the possibility of such damages. This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory on which the claim is based, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability, or otherwise.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the site operator, and any contributors, volunteers, or affiliates, from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, expenses, or fees (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to: (a) your use of the site or its features; (b) any content you submit, share, or transmit through the site; (c) your violation of these Terms of Service; (d) your violation of any rights of any third party; or (e) any misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the site's content, including theological, devotional, or educational material.
12. Third-Party Services
The site may contain links to or integrations with third-party services, including but not limited to the ESV API (Crossway), GoatCounter, GitHub, and OpenBible.info cross-reference data. The site operator has no control over and assumes no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party services. Your use of third-party services is governed by their respective terms and policies.
13. Governing Law
These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, United States, without regard to its conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising under or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in the State of Texas.
14. Severability
If any provision of these Terms of Service is found to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. The invalid provision shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it valid and enforceable while preserving its original intent.
15. Entire Agreement
These Terms of Service constitute the entire agreement between you and the site operator regarding the use of the site, and supersede any prior agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or oral, relating to the subject matter herein.
16. Changes to These Terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. Material changes will be noted with an updated effective date at the top of this page.
17. Contact
If you have questions about these terms, you are welcome to reach out.
