Psalm Prayer Guide

Let God's Words Shape Your Prayers

"Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer."
~ Psalm 19:14

Psalms
Five Daily Prayers
The Method Take the day of the month and read five Psalms at 30-Psalm intervals. Day 1: Psalms 1, 31, 61, 91, 121. Day 2: Psalms 2, 32, 62, 92, 122. Start at the top and skim read until one of the five speaks to where you are today, then let that psalm shape your prayer. The beauty of praying the Psalter is that God has not left us to find our own words for worship. He gave us His. Every psalm is a Spirit-breathed script for praise, lament, confession, and thanksgiving, given so that His people would never lack words worthy of His glory. I first learned of this daily approach through Donald Whitney's excellent book Praying the Bible, which I heartily recommend.

"The Psalms are the anatomy of the soul."

~ John Calvin, preface to his Commentary on the Psalms (1557)
